People ask all the time, "What is Qi Gong?" Qi Gong is an ancient self-healing practice that stems from Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is somewhere between 3,000-5,000 years old. This practice helps to loosen the body, relieve aches and pains, promote circulation, stretch the meridians, stimulate acupressure points, and allow for better chi flow.
This brings up the next question, "What is chi?" Chi is the substance which animates life, the particles which exists all throughout solid matter as well as empty space. When chi flows, we feel good. Stagnant chi creates physical challenge and stress. Chi is something that is better experienced than explained, so you'll have to come in for yourself to discover it's healing power and ability.
Finally, people also ask if Qi Gong is similar to Tai Chi. Same, same, different is how you'll often hear it expressed. The energy sensations of chi are similar, the concept is similar, but how results are achieved might differ. Tai Chi came from Qi Gong. Of the three main styles of Qi Gong, medical, martial, and spiritual, Tai Chi is considered more martial, whereas the classes taught at Whole Hearted Healing Center in Flagstaff are more medically based with the spiritual mixed in. Class format differs slightly as well. Qi Gong can be much more personalized according to the needs of the students, where Tai Chi tends to practice one form to perfection.
Although I do plan on adding in Tai Chi classes in 2026, along with a matt class and guided meditation/visualization, currently Qi Gong classes are held 3X's per week. Monday, Thursday, and Saturdays from 10:30-11:30am with a bonus meditation and sound healing on Saturdays. Come check us out!
